CAST Post.Doc. Trine Villumsen Berling awarded by the Carlsberg Foundation

Trine Villumsen Berling has been award a research grant of no less than 550.000 DK by the Carlsberg Foundation. Trine’s research project, ‘What NATO Knows’, zooms in on the interplay between various forms of expertise in NATO. More specifically, Trine places an emphasis on the relation between technoscientific and experienced-based expertise and knowledge-production at the NATO Defense College, as to locate which type is dominant in the areas of research and teaching. The research project will span between 1 February 2014 – 31 January 2016.

Abstract of the research project

The project investigates how different forms of expertise governs NATO's definition and management of threats and asks, whether specific types of expertise are dominant at the NATO Defence College. Understanding how tensions between abstract, technical knowledge and practical experienced-based knowledge are creating different circumstances for inclusion and exclusion in the organization as a whole, the considerable effects for agenda-setting and the definition of solutions in specific areas will be revealed.
