Just out: The International Political Sociology of Security Rethinking Theory and Practice
CAST Post.doc Trine Villumsen Berling has just published the book, 'The International Political Sociology of Security: Rethinking Theory and Practice'.
In her research, Trine offers a theoretical approach to the intractable problem of theory/practice in international relations (IR) and develops tools to study how these two concepts ‘hang together’ in international security.
Drawing on the political sociology of Bourdieu, the Trine furthermore contends that theory and practice within international security is part of struggles over basic understandings, in which scientific facts, military hardware and social networks are mobilised as weapons in a fight for recognition.
The International Political Sociology of Security will be of interest to students and scholars of international relations, security studies and critical theory.
